Blog Tour: Guest Post: Invisible by Heleyne Hammersley
Today I am helping to end the blog tour for Invisible by Heleyne Hammersley by sharing a guest post! She shares about her journey with her character DI Kate Fletcher and the series. This one was just released on September 23rd and is book six in the series. **She is also having an international giveaway where she is giving away five kindle copies!**

Book Description:
An icy morning, a muddy riverbank. The body of a promising swimmer is found in the River Don close to Thorpe. Returning from a six-month absence, DI Kate Fletcher leads her first murder case since she nearly lost her own life to a desperate killer.
Grappling with her own doubts and insecurities, she has to negotiate a team transformed by differences in staffing and in attitude. Everything has changed and nobody is comfortable.
A second body leads to a strong suspect, but the evidence is circumstantial and far from clear cut. Kate’s ex-Detective Sergeant finds the breakthrough they need to help track down a cunning and meticulous murderer who has no conscience and no fear of consequences.
But can Kate act in time to prevent more deaths?

I’ve been on a bit of an adventure! Not one of my usual walking or cycling trips but an exploration of a world I knew nothing about a few years ago.
My DI Kate Fletcher series originally did quite well with a publisher but, after a slump in sales, I opted to take back my rights and have a think about where to go next with Kate and her team. It turned out to be a very long think. Over a year later, I decided to republish the whole series myself on Amazon Kindle. The problem was I had no idea where to start. I had no idea how to format my Word document for Kindle, no idea how to market the book once it was live and no idea what to expect in terms of sales as the books had already been around for a while.
I’d love to say I watched a couple of videos and did a bit of reading and worked it all out, but in reality I asked a lot of questions and received a lot of excellent advice from others who were on a similar journey. There are some amazing and generous people in the online writing community! I managed to find a cover designer who understood what I wanted and I finally pressed ‘publish’ on Closer to Home in March 2024 with the other titles following later the same year.
But I had nothing to follow them up with. I’d almost given up on Kate and had written two books in a potential new series set in Cumbria, but she wouldn’t let me write her off (pun intended) and I found myself thinking about where I’d left her in 2021. Was it right that the series finished with her battered and broken? And what about her relationship with Nick? I felt there was quite a lot of unfinished business. So Invisible was born.
The story picks up six months after the end of Shattered when Kate finally returns to work after an extended absence. Her team have survived without her, but there have been changes in both personnel and attitude and she has to navigate new personalities and changed relationships while trying to apprehend a vicious serial killer – all the usual police procedural stuff.
I’m so happy with the result. I asked Morgen, who’d edited one of my previous books, if she’d get rid of all my worst writing habits and she did a great job. My cover designer came up with a design that fits well with the rest of the series and…I’m publishing in paperback as well as on Kindle. (Another adventure, complete with pulling my hair out, screaming and throwing things!)
I have no idea what to expect on September 23rd when Invisible will be published. I hope there will be reviews. I hope that they’re mainly positive. I hope that people who enjoyed the other books in the series will come back for another story, despite the long gap.
I think it was a good decision for me to continue Kate’s narrative – hopefully there’ll be people out there who’ll agree.
