Blog Tour: Magic O’Clock and Magical Memories
Today I help end the blog tour for two short stories: Magic O’Clock and Magical Memories by L.S. Fellows. I share my review for these personal yet fictional stories.
These are both fictional short stories based on the end of the author’s father’s life. The emotions and feelings the Fellows experienced are clearly put into these stories; as you read them you can’t help but experience those feelings as well.
Magic O’Clock: 16 pages
Magical Memories: 27 pages
Magic O’Clock Description:
Archie Royle is a kind, funny, gentle man.
He’s also my dad. My storyteller. My hero.
Except he doesn’t remember my face any more.
His world, these days, doesn’t include me or his family.
Life may have changed for him, but he hasn’t given up on life.
Not at all.
It’s just different.
Dad still tells his stories, albeit for a new audience.
He makes people smile and chuckle. As he always did.
He’s a fighter, a survivor and maybe sometimes too clever for his own good! He’ll surprise you. I can assure you of that.
Welcome to Magic O’Clock, where time is irrelevant and hope is unlimited.

Jessica’s Review:
The introduction sums up this short story perfectly:
You can miss someone who died,
You can miss someone who moved away,
But the worst is when you miss someone you see every day.
Magic O’Clock is written in first person and Fellows tells us the fictional story of her father Archie, who had Dementia. You can feel everything she deals with in the loss of her father not knowing who she is anymore. She captures the beauty and hope when her father possibly ‘reappears’ for those few moments.
Fellows skillfully captures what family members go through who have to deal with this terrible disease.

Magical Memories Description:
As Archie Royle takes his final breath, three sisters race to say their goodbyes.
Two don’t make it in time.
I do.
And now, it’s all my fault they’re too late.
Despite him having dementia.
Despite them not visiting in over a month.
But I won’t let anger win.
After all, we’re all grieving, aren’t we?
Surely, as a family, we can let bygones be bygones.
It’s what Dad would want. Expect.
It’s what he deserves.
We have so much to be grateful for.
So many fond and magical memories to share.
Magical Memories is a fictional tale of loss, grief and moving on. A sequel to Magic O’Clock.

Jessica’s Review:
Magical Memories beautifully captures Fellows’ continued story after Magic O’Clock with the end of her father’s life and the after effects. It deals with the differences of opinions the siblings have and how they dealt with everything and eventually come back together.
**If you have a loved one dealing with dementia or have been in the room with someone who has passed away, you may become emotional while reading these short stories. Even if you haven’t experienced those kinds of events, you may become misty-eyed. These are wonderfully written stories with many emotions.
**These stories can both be read during an hour lunch break. Do yourself a favor and read both of these stories.**

About the Author (In her own words):
Despite being born in England, my heart now lies in Spain. Many moons ago, I was a student in Granada, Spain. I loved it so much and swore I would return one day on a more permanent basis. In 2003, I did just that.
Now, as a fur-mum to two adorable but mischievous mutts, in my free time I can usually be spotted with my nose in a book, armed with just the teeniest chunk of chocolate and a zillion pomegranates!
