In the kingdom of Sempera, time is currencyâextracted from blood, bound to iron, and consumed to add time to oneâs own lifespan. The rich aristocracy, like the Gerlings, tax the poor to the hilt, extending their own lives by centuries. No one resents the Gerlings more than Jules Ember. A decade ago, she and her father were servants at Everless, the Gerlingsâ palatial estate, until a fateful accident forced them to flee in the dead of night. When Jules discovers that her father is dying, she knows that she must return to Everless to earn more time for him before she loses him forever. But going back to Everless brings more dangerâand temptationâthan Jules could have ever imagined. Soon sheâs caught in a tangle of violent secrets and finds her heart torn between two people she thought sheâd never see again. Her decisions have the power to change her fateâand the fate of time itself.

Jules Ember was raised hearing legends of the ancient magic of the wicked Alchemist and the good Sorceress. But she has just learned the truth: not only are the stories true, but she herself is the Alchemist, and Caroâa woman who single-handedly murdered the Queen and Julesâs first love, Roan, in cold bloodâis the Sorceress.
The whole kingdom believes that Jules is responsible for the murders, and a hefty bounty has been placed on her head. And Caro is intent on destroying Jules, who stole her heart twelve lifetimes ago. Jules must delve into the stories that she now recognizes are accounts of her own past. For it is only by piecing together the mysteries of her lives that Jules will be able to save the person who has captured her own heart in this one.
Kimâs Rating of the Series: 4 Stars
Kimâs Review:
This duology is great! I read Everless last year, without realizing it was part of a series. Thankfully, Evermore came out without too much delay and I was so excited to read the series again and find out what happens. I was not disappointed. Jules Ember is an excellent protagonist that I enjoyed rooting for. Her attitude about men gets a little ridiculous sounding in Everless, when she seems to put her feelings for Roan above everything else. Of course, I admit, I preferred Liam the whole time anyways. Thatâs the only reason Iâm giving this series 4 stars.
The story is unique and easy to follow. These are the books that you read thru 50 pages without realizing it. Everless sounds like a beautiful place to live and I liked seeing the connections between it and the characters. Jules managed to separate Everless and its owners. She loved Everless and always felt that it was her home, no matter who else was there. I canât say too much about Evermore, because I donât want to give anything away . . . In fact, I probably shouldnât say much more anyway, yâall just need to read it!
The story is great, the characters are believable and mostly likable, the setting is beautiful, the covers of both books are gorgeous, and I think this duology is completely appropriate for teens. I definitely recommend it to those who like fantasy!

Kimâs Review:
This was another book that caught me with the cover alone. I had seen it on some of the book sites, and the description sounded cool, but it was the cover that caused me to grab it up and put it in my cart! And I think there may be something wrong with me . . . I was so attracted to the âvillainâ in this book! Liam was my favorite character from the beginning. The whole time that Jules pines over Roan, Iâm sitting here yelling, âwhy?? Liam is right there and heâs sooo much better!!â But of course, Jules didnât listen to me. Jules is one of those girls that doesnât listen to anyone, who does her own thing, and sometimes that turns out well, other times it doesnât. Thatâs why I gave Everless 4 stars, because Jules ends up making some dumb decisions that really screwed her up when they really shouldnât have.
But I loved the setting, the story was interesting, the mystery kept me turning the pages, and most of the characters were intriguing. And look, itâs another series! Why do I keep doing this to myself?? And there isnât even a publication date on Goodreads for the next book . . . Iâm never gonna make it. Aside from that, this is a great book and a good one for teens to help get them into reading. I would recommend this book to anybody.
