Audiobook Description:

After their mother passes, three estranged siblings reunite to sort out her estate.

Beth, the oldest, never left home. She stayed with her mom, caring for her until the very end.

Nicole, the middle child, has been kept at arm’s length due to her ongoing battle with a serious drug addiction.

Michael, the youngest, lives out of state and hasn’t been back to their small Wisconsin town since their father ran out on them seven years before.

While going through their parent’s belongings, the siblings stumble upon a collection of home videos and decide to revisit those happier memories. However, the nostalgia is cut short when one of the VHS tapes reveals a night back in 1999 that none of them have any recollection of. On screen, their father appears covered in blood. What follows is a dead body and a pact between their parents to get rid of it, before the video abruptly ends. Beth, Nicole, and Michael must now decide whether to leave the past in the past or uncover the dark secret their mother took to her grave.

Jessica’s Review:

This one has mixed reviews, and once I saw the Barnes and Nobel special edition cover, I knew if I liked it, I HAD to get that edition! And I did enjoy it, gave it four stars and bought myself that special edition!

It was just a good story for me and nostalgia factor of1999 and all of the references of that ‘easier time of life’.

We have multiple povs, so you know I really enjoyed this one! I enjoyed the ending and again, the title comes into play towards the end of the book. I wasn’t a total fan of the villain’s motives.

When I saw the audiobook had multiple actors doing the narrations, I just has to listen to the book! And January LaVoy is one of my favorite narrators! It was a shorter book, so it could be read quicker if the reader has the time!

Home was my first novel by the author, so I will see what else she writes/ look into her previous novels.

Book Description:

For the past five years, Ryan Richardson has relived that terrible night. The car door ripping open. The crushing blow to the head. The hands yanking him from the vehicle. His girlfriend Ali’s piercing scream as she is taken.

With no trace of Ali or the car, a cloud of suspicion hangs over Ryan. But with no proof and a good lawyer, he’s never charged, though that doesn’t matter to the podcasters and internet trolls. Now, Ryan has changed his last name, and entered law school. He’s put his past behind him.

Until, on a summer trip abroad to Italy with his law-school classmates, Ryan gets a call from his father: Ali’s car has finally been found, submerged in a lake in his hometown. Inside are two dead men and a cryptic note with five words written on the envelope in Ali’s handwriting: If something happens to me…

Then, halfway around the world, the unthinkable happens: Ryan sees the man who has haunted his dreams since that night.

As Ryan races from the rolling hills of Tuscany, to a rural village in the UK, to the glittering streets of Paris in search of the truth, he has no idea that his salvation may lie with a young sheriff’s deputy in Kansas working her first case, and a mobster in Philadelphia who’s experienced tragedy of his own.

In classic Alex Finlay form, If Something Happens to Me is told from several distinct, compelling characters whose paths intersect, detonating into a story of twist after pulse-pounding twist. The story cements Finlay as one of the leading thriller writers today.

Jessica’s Review:

These next few reviews won’t be as in depth as I usually write due to my impending divorce and moving to an apartment on my own. At least my fur babies Sage and Curry are with me now!
~~~
This was my first Alex Findlay book I read (it was actually a listen) and I really enjoyed it! I have several of his books waiting to be read on my shelves! And now after getting one of his read, I hope to get the others in soon!
From what I recall this novel had a lot of what I really like in it. I wish I could remember more details, but life really happened in these past couple of months. I really liked Poppy.
I can say that the cover is absolutely perfect with the story! When I got to  that part of the books, I thought “The cover!”
Many thanks for the publisher for granting an alc to listen to and review! I’m hoping very soon to ‘get back to normal’ with my reviewing!
A Second Listening of Wrong Place Wrong Time by Gillian McAllister
If you saw my May Reads post, then you know why posts have been far and between. I AM getting audiobooks in, but finding the time to get reviews done has been super hard. I  am finally getting settled in my apartment and I DID get Sage and Curry this past Saturday night (the 15th) and am so happy to have these two back with me!  Sunday was my first relaxing day in forever, so hopefully I can bring you more reviews soon!
Book Description:
Can you stop a murder after it’s already happened?
Late October. After midnight. You’re waiting up for your seventeen-year-old son. He’s late. As you watch from the window, he emerges, and you realize he isn’t alone: he’s walking toward a man, and he’s armed.
You can’t believe it when you see him do it: your funny, happy teenage son, he kills a stranger, right there on the street outside your house. You don’t know who. You don’t know why. You only know your son is now in custody. His future shattered.
That night you fall asleep in despair. All is lost. Until you wake… and it is yesterday.
And then you wake again… and it is the day before yesterday.
Every morning you wake up a day earlier, another day before the murder. With another chance to stop it. Somewhere in the past lies an answer. The trigger for this crime—and you don’t have a choice but to find it…
Jessica’s Review:
For today, I bring you a review (YAY!) It’s a re-listen that was a book club read recently. I loved it the first time and enjoyed it just as much the second time! I can’t really say much more than what I said when I reviewed it back in 2022, so here is my review from then:
This is another one that made me go “Whoa!”
Sort of like a reverse Groundhog Day where Jen sees her teenage son Todd murder an unknown stranger in front of their house one night and he is arrested. This would be every parent’s worst nightmare come true.  Then she wakes up the ‘next day’ but it is not:  It is actually the day before the murder. She lives each day and then wakes up further in the past.  How long will Jenn keep going into the past and can she stop Todd from his now future crime?
Jenn is on this on her own for the most part because everything she experiences no one will remember because the next day she moves into the past again.
I can’t say much more because you really can’t without giving everything away! I thought I might know the direction the novel was going, but nope! I was wrong! The story does become more than just stopping this now future murder and we get some unbelievably good twists! And the ending.. I just loved it!!!
I listened to the audiobook and the narrator did a fabulous job with her storytelling and interpretations of the characters.
If you are a thriller lover at all, then go pick this one up now! And prepare to go along for a wild and crazy good ride!
