Happy 7th Anniversary!

2020 is a becoming quite a year so far with everything going on which includes the unnecessary chaos that started last week…. and I am also turning 40 at the end of next month (I still don’t know how this happened as I don’t feel that age!).  But until then, today I celebrate my 7th wedding anniversary to my hubby!

We have taken a long weekend to celebrate. It’s been quite a seven years and let’s keep it going!

Here we are on our big day:

After their parents divorced, 10-year-old twins Ivy and Iris were split up–Ivy lived with Dad, Iris with Mom. Now, after a tragic accident takes their mom’s life, the twins are reunited and Iris moves in with Ivy and their dad. Devastated over Mom’s death, Iris spends the first few weeks in almost total silence–the only person she will speak to is Ivy. Iris feels her life is over and she doesn’t know what to do. Ivy promises her twin that she can share her life now. After all, they’re sisters. Twins.
It’s a promise that Iris takes seriously. And before long, Ivy’s friends, her life at school, and her boyfriend, Tyler, fall under Iris’s spell. Slowly, Ivy realizes she’s being pushed out of her own life. But she’s just being paranoid, right? And Mom’s accident was . . . just an accident. Right? It’s not like she–or Dad–or Tyler–are in any danger. . .

The Read-a-Long is Coming!

If you follow us over at the Facebook page, then you already know what is coming: Our second read-a-long! The first was The Institute by Stephen King, and that went…not so well…..

Well, we are not giving up, in fact, we are trying again! This time we are reading House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski which was suggested to us by Beccie… SO…. if it fails it is her fault! LOL, not really!  Maybe we can have a ‘normal’ book with chapters the next time. We will see how it goes as it is a HUGE book at just over 700 pages, but it is not a traditional book format, so it technically isn’t that long.

How it is working: We have 9 participating and starting February 15th we will be messaging in a group message via Facebook messenger to talk about the book. We will reading 25 pages a day. Kim will start out leading the discussion and we will see what happens from there. I will send out the first group message in a few days so we can all introduce ourselves.

Here are our list of participants:
Jessica (myself)
Jessica (yes two of us this time!)

If you want in, you still have time! You can order the book off Amazon and should get it by Satruday! Also let me know you are participating so we can have you in the group messaging!

Now you might be asking, what’s this book about????

Book Description from Goodreads:

Years ago, when House of Leaves was first being passed around, it was nothing more than a badly bundled heap of paper, parts of which would occasionally surface on the Internet. No one could have anticipated the small but devoted following this terrifying story would soon command. Starting with an odd assortment of marginalized youth—musicians, tattoo artists, programmers, strippers, environmentalists, and adrenaline junkies—the book eventually made its way into the hands of older generations, who not only found themselves in those strangely arranged pages but also discovered a way back into the lives of their estranged children.

Now, for the first time, this astonishing novel is made available in book form, complete with the original colored words, vertical footnotes, and newly added second and third appendices.

The story remains unchanged, focusing on a young family that moves into a small home on Ash Tree Lane where they discover something is terribly wrong: their house is bigger on the inside than it is on the outside.

Of course, neither Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalist Will Navidson nor his companion Karen Green was prepared to face the consequences of that impossibility, until the day their two little children wandered off and their voices eerily began to return another story—of creature darkness, of an ever-growing abyss behind a closet door, and of that unholy growl which soon enough would tear through their walls and consume all their dreams.

Like I said, who knows what we are getting ourselves into… And apparently this house is a Tardis…..

We’ll be reading it and talking about it starting February 15th. We hope to ‘see’ you then!
