My April 2024 Reads

It’s May 1st and here are my April reads! I’m slowly getting my reading back up, I got 6 books read or listened to and two of them were short stories.  Two were also advanced copies.

Here is a list of the books in the order I finished them:

Granite Harbor by Peter Nichols (Audio, Advanced copy) 2 stars
Just a Girl by Alyssa Cole (Audio, short story) 1 star
Baby X by Kira Peikoff (Kindle) 5 stars
Summers at the Saint by Mary Kay Andrews (Audio, Advanced copy) 4 stars
Anniebot by Sierra Greer (Audio) 4 stars
The Heart of a Mother by Julie Clark (Audio, short story) 4 stars

My favorite read was Baby X by Kira Peikoff. This one and Anniebot left me with a lot to think about with Science Fiction and Speculative Fiction.  Both are very good, but Baby X knocked it out of the park with everything!

My ‘least favorite’ was a short story:  Just a Girl.  It just let too much to be desired and did not work for me.

My March 2024 Reads

It’s April 1st and here are my March reads! I’m doing a little better, I got 6 books read or listened to.  But it was only a so-so month with half the books I enjoyed while the other half weren’t that great.

Here is a list of the books in the order I finished them:

Make Her Pay by Miranda Rijks (Audio) 4 stars
First Lie Wins by Ashley Elston (Audio) 3 stars
I Need a Lifeguard Everywhere but the Pool by Lisa Scottoline and Francesca Serritella (Audio) 4 stars
What the River Knows by Isabel Ibañez (Hardback) 4 stars
That Bird Has My Wings by Jarvis Jay Masters (Audio) 3 stars
None of this is True by Lisa Jewell (Audio) 3 stars

My favorite read was What the River Knows. I’ve had some personal things going on, and it took me way too long to read, but it was really good! Ancient Egypt is always a great location to read. And I went there in 2006, so reading about it brought back memories of that trip.  The only thing bad about it is that I have to wait for the sequel (and final) book to come out in November!

My ‘least favorite’ read was a tie: That Bird Has My Wings by Jarvis Jay Masters and None of this is True by Lisa Jewell.  I just hate having a memoir as a least favorite read, as it is someone’s life, but there was nothing uplifting about this memoir. He mainly focused on his childhood and youth, not being in prison.  None of This is True has great reviews but it was not for me.  I don’t usually get triggered, but this one did it. There was a great deal of pedophilia in it, and I did not know going into it that would be a focus. I had heard the audio was fabulous, which it was because it was a full cast narration with music and sound design.  The audio earned it an extra star.

My February 2024 Reads

It’s March 1st and here are my February reads!!  I listened to four audiobooks in February. I’m slowly but surely getting through a physical book. There is nothing wrong with it, in fact I am enjoying it, but life happened! As of working on this post on Monday, I have about 150 pages left of it.  I’ll get it finished soon!

Here is a list of the books in the order I finished them:

The Girl on the News by Elizabeth Carpenter -3.5 stars
Switched
by Sarah Ready- 4.5 stars
You’ll Never Know I’m Here
by Kiersten Modglin 3.5 stars
The Teacher
by Freida McFadden5 stars

My favorite read was The Teacher.  It comes with trigger warnings, so take heed, and I did not expect going in that it would end up being my top read and also a 5 star read! Freida McFadden got me with this one! Knowing the ending I really need to listen to it again!

My ‘least favorite’ was The Girl on the News. It just didn’t work for me. I also think this one is one I need to actually read versus listen to.
