Book Description:

The cats are back, and it’s still not really a Christmas story.

Danielle rescues a cat from some mean men who are throwing rocks at it. After making sure it’s healthy she brings it home to join the family. Dark deeds abound, Danielle starts finding her neighbour’s dead pets in her house and shamefully buries them in the yard at night.

Is Meow getting out and killing the neighbour’s pets?

Impossible, he’s just a sweet, little kitty after all…

Jessica’s Review:

To ‘prepare’ myself for Sian B. Claven’s upcoming short story Merry Meow I decided to re-read the first in the series Killer Kitteh Khristmas, and prepare me it did!  I enjoyed that one just as much the second time, but I will let my previous review stand for it as it is time to talk about Merry Meow:

Danielle does what every cat lover does: Saves and brings home a new furbaby! But what if you refuse to see things for how they actually are occurring or just in denial? This is what Merry Meow is about. It is a short story, so you can’t say much without giving spoilers, but this is story is not for the faint of heart: Claven writes horror and yes, you get some bloody horror in this story! And no, I did not see that ending coming…

I really enjoyed Merry Meow and look forward to the next in the series: Jingle Fur.  I received an e-arc from the author to read and review and also pre-ordered Merry Meow for just .99 on Amazon!  If you enjoy horror at all, spend the .99 and find a new-to-you author if you haven’t read anything from Claven before.

One day I will read more than her short stories, as I have several of her full-length novels on my kindle.

Merry Meow is recommended!

Book Description:

In a post-apocalyptic world run by the demons of hell, it is time for the next Middle Born generation to leave their city and take a perilous journey to reach Nirvana.

Promised safety from the darkness of this world, they are not prepared for what they are about to face both as a group and as individuals.

Their worlds survival rests on their shoulders but all is not as it seems and they will be put to the ultimate test.

Kim’s Review:

Another triumph! Claven is now firmly established as one of my favorite horror authors ever!

The Culling was simple, easy to read, easy to understand, and downright terrifying! I feel a little stupid that I didn’t see the twist in it’s entirety before it was revealed, but what a twist:  My jaw dropped! And it didn’t take long to set up the plot and then throw us into the scary woods with freaky demons and frightful days and nights! I was pretty dang petrified while reading! I can’t decide if I want to go to Nirvana cuz I’m weird like that, or if I should stay far far away because of my rather strong survival instincts. And my trust issues are probably from reading books like this … and I’m strangely ok with that. I definitely rank The Culling as one of Claven’s best and I definitely recommend it to all horror fans!

Book Description:

What did you say?

The once silent world of Heather Lawrence is turned upside down when her husband, Andrew, admits her to a state of the art facility for surgery that enables Heather to hear and speak, an ability she lost in her teens.

Strangeness abounds as she hears voices that aren’t there and speaks words that are not her own, and she tries to navigate through her noisy new life.

Desperate for answers, Andrew searches for the surgeon that gave Heather her new lease on life, but turns up with more questions than when he started. He soon finds himself in need of a priest as All Hallows’ Eve approaches, and all traces of his wife disappear in front of his eyes.

Kim’s Review:

Yass! A Sian B. Claven book that I can recommend without worrying about offending anyone! I really liked this book. It was simple and straightforward and with a twist that I didn’t see coming. There’s not much to say about it; it just needs to be read. My only real criticism is that I want more. My horror itch was scratched, but come on, more detail! I really liked it!
